Lately, there’s been a bit of a hiccup for fans of Ubisoft games who are using Windows 11. Thanks to a new update, some of these games, including the much-anticipated Star Wars Outlaws, have become unplayable.
Isn’t it always the way with computers? We depend on them for so many things, and yet one tiny update can suddenly throw things into chaos with no clear reason why. While missing out on gaming isn’t exactly a life-or-death situation, this particular update has managed to create quite a headache for those keen on Ubisoft’s offerings. Players began noticing issues with some games following the latest Windows 11 update, and Microsoft has now confirmed that it’s this update causing the problems, which should bring some solace that your gaming setup isn’t to blame.
Here’s what Microsoft’s official post had to say: “After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you might encounter issues with some Ubisoft games.” They elaborated that these games might freeze up during startup, loading phases, or even mid-gameplay, and sometimes users might find themselves staring at nothing but a black screen. They even listed the affected titles, which include Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
To address the issue, Microsoft has put a hold on devices with these games from receiving the Windows 11, version 24H2 update to “safeguard your Windows update experience.” They’ve advised users not to manually update using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or media creation tools until a resolution is in place.
In the meantime, Ubisoft has stepped in with a temporary fix for the snafu. While it might not be perfect, offering the caution that “you may experience some performance issues,” they’re hard at work on a permanent solution. They’ve promised to keep players informed once it’s ready. So until things get sorted out, it might be the perfect time to give some other games in your collection a spin.
