Xbox is keeping fans on their toes with new first-party games lined up for future announcements. It’s anticipated that some of these titles will be unveiled at the June showcase.
In the world of Xbox, there’s a lot brewing beneath the surface. Recently, on the official Xbox podcast, Craig Duncan, the head of Xbox Game Studios, opened up about some of the exciting titles we can look forward to, including South of Midnight, Doom: The Dark Ages, and more. However, he also brought news that the highly awaited Fable reboot from Playground Games faced a delay, now eyeing a 2026 release.
Currently, Xbox’s first-party studios appear to be firing on all cylinders. After the successful launch of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle at the end of 2024, the upcoming lineup for 2025 seems even more robust. Obsidian’s Avowed has just been released to positive feedback, Compulsion Games is set to launch their Southern Gothic, stop-motion styled action game, South of Midnight, in April, and Doom: The Dark Ages is expected in May. Furthermore, Obsidian is also prepping for the release of The Outer Worlds 2 later this year. Beyond 2025, Xbox fans can look forward to huge releases including the Perfect Dark reboot, the BioShock-inspired RPG Clockwork Revolution, Gears of War: E-Day, and now, Fable.
Craig Duncan, during his chat on Xbox’s podcast, took a moment to reassure fans about Fable’s delay, emphasizing that there’s still much to be excited about. While he didn’t spill all the beans, he hinted at more unannounced games that are in the pipeline. He shared, “We’ve got a bunch of stuff we haven’t announced, so obviously I spend a bunch of time with that…but yeah, we have lots going on.”
There’s anticipation in the air as several Xbox studios may be on the brink of announcing their next big project. It’s been over three years since Double Fine launched Psychonauts 2, which has many questioning what Tim Schafer and his team are up to next. Similarly, Ninja Theory might be ready to reveal their latest endeavor, and Obsidian seems to always have a smaller team cooking up a passion project, much like Grounded or Pentiment. On the larger scale of things, 343 Industries, which was recently rebranded, could be ready to showcase a new game utilizing Unreal Engine 5, or perhaps Forza devs at Playground are prepping the next Horizon installment. That’s not even considering the potential surprises from all the Bethesda and Activision Blizzard studios.
Gamers are eagerly waiting for Xbox to pin down a date for its June showcase, which seems like the perfect platform to reveal these new first-party titles, possibly from Bethesda, Activision Blizzard, or elsewhere within the Xbox family. It’ll certainly be intriguing to see if Xbox can eclipse last year’s spectacular display.
