Microsoft has introduced some exciting updates for Windows Insiders, bringing two new features to the Copilot app that tech enthusiasts have eagerly awaited. This week’s updates enhance file search capabilities and introduce a tool called Copilot Vision.
These enhancements came after Microsoft’s 50th-anniversary Copilot showcase, where they announced several intriguing features to be gradually released.
With this update, users can instruct Copilot to find specific documents on their devices. The app now supports a broad spectrum of file types, allowing it to read .docx, .xlsx, .pptx, .txt, .pdf, and .json files.
The file search works intuitively, allowing users to utilize everyday language for searches. Microsoft illustrated this by showing how you might simply request, “Open the trip planning doc I was working on last week.” Users can also adjust settings to control which files Copilot can access, ensuring privacy and security.
In addition to enhanced search, Copilot Vision is another standout addition. This feature lets you share windows from browsers or apps with Copilot, enabling the AI to assess and offer insights on the content in real-time.
For instance, if you’re playing a game like Minecraft, Copilot Vision can offer tips and strategies. It also provides advice on using various applications effectively to complete tasks.
Initially working exclusively with Microsoft Edge, Copilot Vision has now been expanded to support other applications. To start using it, click the glasses icon within Copilot and select the window you want to be analyzed. When done, you can easily cease the feature by clicking ‘Stop’ or ‘X.’
These improvements require version 1.25034.133.0 or later of Copilot, and Windows Insiders in the US are among the first to experience them. Notably, you don’t need a Copilot+ device to enjoy these new capabilities on Windows, open to all users who are part of the Windows Insider program.
