Renowned voice actor Troy Baker is gearing up for a fresh venture with Sony’s game powerhouse, Naughty Dog. Although Neil Druckmann is at the helm of this project, the specifics about Baker’s role and the nature of the new game remain shrouded in mystery.
In a recent feature by GQ, which was highlighted by Eurogamer, it was unveiled that The Last of Us’s lead voice will once again collaborate with Naughty Dog. Neil Druckmann expressed his excitement about reuniting with Baker, stating, “I’d jump at the chance to work with Troy anytime.”
While nothing concrete has been disclosed about Naughty Dog’s upcoming title, there’s been a series of tantalizing hints, some dropped by Druckmann himself. During a webinar with BioShock mastermind Ken Levine, Druckmann mentioned the new game has been in the works since 2020. Though he has yet to receive a green light from Sony for an official announcement, he’s been assured complete creative freedom for the project.
Further stirring the pot of speculation, rumors suggest that this prestigious studio might be diving into fantasy terrain. This whispered-about venture is believed to emphasize player autonomy.
Baker has left a significant mark on the gaming world over the years, lending his voice to iconic series such as The Last of Us, Death Stranding, Borderlands, Uncharted, and Metal Gear Solid, among others. Recently, though, he’s been more selective with his projects. This year, he’s graced only two new titles: Batman: Arkham Shadow and the eagerly awaited Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
According to the profile piece, it appears Baker’s past successes have afforded him the privilege to choose roles with discretion, including the much-buzzed-about Ken Levine project, Judas. Fans can also look forward to his return as Higgs in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.
There’s a buzz in the air that PlayStation is gearing up for major announcements soon, and it’s entirely possible this could be part of that lineup.
