Sony has just announced that they’re cutting the price of their PSVR 2 next month. Soon, you’ll be able to snag this PS5 and PC-compatible VR headset for just $400.
The PSVR 2 made its debut almost two years ago at a launch price of $550. Surprisingly, during the two-year anniversary, there wasn’t much publicity around it, nor was it mentioned in the recent Sony State of Play. Nonetheless, starting in March, the price is dropping to $400 in the US, €550 in Europe, £400 in the UK, and Â¥66,980 in Japan.
What makes this price cut even more exciting is that it applies to both the basic PSVR 2 bundle, which includes the headset, two Sense controllers, and headphones, and the Horizon Call of the Mountain hardware bundle that originally tagged at $600 when it launched in February 2023.
Interestingly, it’s worth mentioning that we’ve seen even steeper discounts before. In November 2024, Sony slashed the price of the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle down to just $350. So, who knows, we might see even better deals in the future.
Even as Sony promotes impressive PSVR 2 content such as Skydance’s Behemoth, Metro Awakening VR, and Alien: Rogue Incursion, along with upcoming games like Aces of Thunder and Dreams of Another, their support for the PSVR 2 seems a bit restrained.
To date, the company has only put out a few first-party titles for the PSVR 2, including Horizon Call of the Mountain and VR modes for Gran Turismo 7, Resident Evil Village, and Resident Evil 4 Remake. This is in stark contrast to their lineup from the 2016 PSVR, which saw hits like Astro Bot Rescue Mission, Blood & Truth, and a variety of others.
Sony did extend a bit of an olive branch last August when they launched a $60 PC Adapter, allowing PSVR 2 users to connect to a VR-ready PC and play popular games like Half-Life: Alyx and Fallout 4 VR. However, it seems this is just the start of PSVR 2’s gradual separation from merely being a PS5 accessory.
With price cuts like these and potential future discounts, Sony could potentially replicate strong sales performances like those from the past holiday season. Such markdowns would definitely attract more PS5 owners, as they’d get access not only to the existing pool of fantastic games but also to an ongoing stream of third-party releases. If we see a repeat of last year’s 42% Black Friday discount, the PSVR 2 could drop to just $232, practically making it more appealing and attainable as a holiday gift.
