Rumor: Gears of War Collection to Launch on PS5 on Release Day

Ever since Forza Horizon 5 was confirmed for the PS5, it feels like the floodgates have opened for Xbox titles making their way to Sony’s gaming world. Rumor has been swirling that Marcus Fenix and his epic battle against the Locust Horde might soon arrive on PlayStation consoles. The buzz is that this isn’t just a standalone game; rather, it’s a full collection featuring the first three Gears of War games, expected to launch on both the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S at the same time.

Currently, whispers from the gaming grapevine, thanks to a known leaker named eXtas1s, suggest that a Gears of War collection is indeed on the horizon. While the exact announcement date remains a mystery, the leaker believes it will release across multiple platforms from the get-go. Interestingly, it’s said this collection will support cross-play, meaning gamers on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation can all join forces in the virtual battleground.

eXtas1s had this to say, “I can talk about Gears Collection because [this project] has been quite a challenge for me to confirm its existence. But it appears it does exist. I can confirm that whenever the Gears Collection is announced, it will launch as a multiplatform title on day one,” explained eXtas1s, with the translation provided by ResetEra member Rychu. “To emphasize, these remastered versions of the old Gears games will allow cross-platform play. The only piece I haven’t locked down is if there’s a version coming to Switch, but PC, Xbox, and PlayStation fans can definitely play together.”

These aren’t the first whispers we’ve heard about Gears of War potentially hitting the PS5. Earlier in the month, Windows Central’s Jez Corden suggested that the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition might make its way to Sony’s console by 2025.
