Disney’s Strange World stands out as one of those films that simply didn’t get the recognition it deserved. This adventurous gem weaves the familiar generational themes that Disney is known for, following the lives of three generations of the Clade family. Each of them holds their own ideals about what the family should be, and as grandfather, father, and son confront their individual beliefs, the movie unfolds with some of the most breathtaking animation Disney has ever created, though sadly, it didn’t get the theater time it warranted.
Drawing inspiration from classic adventure tales like Indiana Jones, Strange World also incorporates a strong environmental message set against a backdrop of a visually stunning alien realm. This world is filled with extraordinary landscapes, dynamic characters—both human and otherwise—and intriguing creatures that live up to the film’s title. Despite its setting of oddities, the story’s heart lies in its very human conflicts. The Clade family’s journey to understanding one another involves venturing into uncharted, perilous territories to face the issues they’ve neglected.
Regrettably, Disney didn’t quite give this film the attention it needed. The marketing fell short, resulting in one of the most disappointing box office results for such an outstanding piece of work. If you have a Disney+ subscription, you’ve got to check it out because it’s an absolute must-watch. Truly, this movie deserved a better fate.
