Ancient Dungeon VR, the engaging rogue-lite dungeon crawler, has enjoyed a newfound buzz as it rolls out a multiplayer co-op feature for PSVR 2. This update is set to change the way players immerse themselves into the game’s adrenaline-pumping adventures.
The game originally made its debut in 2021 on Steam Early Access and the now-closed App Lab for Quest, delivering an enthralling single-player journey. Players were drawn into over 20 hours of intricate dungeon exploration, filled with physics-based combat against a variety of blocky foes like wizards and skeletons, reminiscent of classic Dungeons & Dragons adventures.
Interestingly, both the Quest and SteamVR versions received a four-player co-op update by mid-2024. However, when the game launched on PSVR 2 in December 2023, multiplayer fans were left hanging. Fortunately, the wait is over. Developer Eric Thullen has finally unleashed the co-op update for PSVR 2, allowing teams of up to four to tackle the game’s procedurally-generated challenges together.
In a recent Reddit Q&A, Thullen shed some light on cross-play capabilities, admitting it’s not yet supported but reassuring fans that compatibility with Quest and PC VR is “on the horizon.”
Since its early days, Ancient Dungeon has flourished into one of VR’s most celebrated indie titles. It initially gained momentum through a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2020, which paved the way for a widely applauded beta version. This venture garnered over 1,000 glowing reviews, achieving a commendable score of 4.8 out of 5.
Years down the line, Thullen and his team haven’t slowed down. They continually roll out updates, introducing new weapons, eye-catching cosmetics, insightful upgrades, expansive dungeon floors, and intriguing relics. All these elements are part of the team’s robust preparations for an eventual 1.0 release, which, according to a Steam update, is still some time away.
For those yet to dive into the action, Ancient Dungeon VR is available on Steam for PC VR headsets, the Horizon Store for Quest, and the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2, each priced at $20. Whether you’re a seasoned adventurer or a VR newbie, it’s a thrilling experience worth every penny.
