nDreams, the creators of the thrilling free-to-play arena shooter FRENZIES, have exciting news that the game will exit early access later this year. However, it won’t be making its way to PSVR 2 as earlier anticipated.
The company shared a statement revealing they have other intriguing PS VR2 plans in store, saying:
“We’re thrilled to announce that FRENZIES will remain free-to-play once it leaves Early Access later this year! Since our start on Meta Quest, the feedback has been incredible, with players really enjoying the unique chaos we’ve crafted. Our primary goal is to ensure we’re delivering the best version possible, which is why we’ve decided to fully concentrate on the Meta Quest release for now. Although PSVR 2 enthusiasts might feel let down, we promise more exciting PS VR2 news is on the horizon!
Stay tuned for updates in the coming weeks as we outline our roadmap for leaving Early Access.”
Since its debut on Quest 2 and above in October 2024, FRENZIES has offered players an exhilarating experience with its fast-paced shooting action and a variety of weapons and game modes. Everything is seamlessly integrated into an engaging VR-native gameplay setting.
Those looking forward to a PSVR 2 debut might be disappointed, but nDreams’ strategic choice is understandable. The Quest platform has recently gained momentum, especially with younger users, driven by the introduction of the $300 Quest 3S. This boost has consequently increased the popularity of free-to-play content on Quest.
Samantha Ryan, Meta’s VP of Metaverse Content, noted earlier this year, “We anticipate free-to-play (F2P) becoming a viable approach for developers, who have previously depended mainly on premium apps. Both models will likely coexist.”
nDreams seems to be navigating a challenging economic landscape carefully. It appears they aim to gain the most significant benefit by focusing on their largest potential audience. This comes at a time when they have consolidated their forces by merging nDreams Studio Orbital and nDreams Studio into the newly formed ‘Compass’ after recent layoffs.
As one of the most established studios in the XR gaming sphere, nDreams has delivered an impressive array of high-quality VR titles. Some of their noted works include Vendetta Forever, Power Wash Simulator VR, Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord, Synapse, Fracked, Little Cities, and Phantom: Cover Ops.
