We’re diving into the realm of Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island with an anticipated review coming up soon. To give you a bit of a preview, I had a chat with Alex Kanaris-Sotiriou, one of the co-founders of Polygon Treehouse. Let’s explore what makes this game tick!
PS4Blog: Good morning, Alex! It’s great to have you here again. How are things going for you?
Alex: Thanks! It’s been quite the whirlwind since we released our last indie game, Röki. With our latest endeavor, Mythwrecked, I’ve loved exploring folklore from a fresh angle. This time, rather than delving into Scandinavian tales, we’re reimagining Greek gods living in our modern world!
PS4B: We’re excited about Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island launching on the Nintendo Switch on December 5. Can you give us a glimpse into what players can expect?
Alex: Absolutely! We like to call Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island an ‘explore-o-story’ adventure. You step into the shoes of Alex, a weary backpacker whose holiday takes an unexpected turn when a strange storm leaves them stranded on a forgotten island. As you navigate the island, you’ll meet and forge friendships with Greek gods, help them piece together their lost memories, and find a way back home.
PS4B: How did Mythwrecked come to life? Has the vision for the game evolved much from the initial concept to what’s soon to be released?
Alex: The initial idea took off around three years ago. The core concept was fairly concrete early on. Mechanics like the radar treasure hunts and memory flashbacks stayed true to the original idea. However, the ‘Story Sandbox’—those dynamic conversations with the gods—went through multiple iterations. I’m thrilled with the final version, as it really immerses players in the ongoing narrative adventure.
PS4B: Röki had a physical edition for its release. Any plans for Mythwrecked to follow suit?
Alex: I’m a big advocate for physical releases, and it was fantastic to see Röki in that format. Currently, there’s nothing official to announce for Mythwrecked, but I’d absolutely love to see it happen one day.
PS4B: Time to wrap things up. Any last words you’d like to share with our readers?
Alex: Just a huge thank you for your interest! If cozy, mythology-infused adventures or mysteries sound appealing, I’d urge you to check out Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island. We think it’ll offer a memorable indie gaming experience!
