With 466 votes in its favor, Pragmata managed to outshine some heavyweight contenders such as Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, all of which seem likely to hit shelves in the coming year. This isn’t the first time either; since making its debut in 2020, Pragmata has consistently shown up in Famitsu reader polls, often landing in the top three spots. You’d actually have to flip back to the September 2023 issue of the magazine to find a time when it wasn’t among the ten most wanted games.
Despite the numbers being somewhat unexpected, they don’t really shed light on why there’s such a buzz. Over the last five years, we’ve only caught glimpses of Pragmata via a few stunning cinematics and fleeting gameplay clips, leaving us puzzled about what exactly has captured the attention of Famitsu readers. Personally, I was intrigued when it was first unveiled, but given its shaky trajectory, I’ve started to group it with Deep Down—another hyped Capcom project that unfortunately never came to fruition.
Currently, most of what we know about Pragmata comes from Capcom’s official marketing blurbs, describing it as “an all-new action adventure set in a near-future dystopian world on the moon,” complete with a richly detailed story and setting. Similar descriptions can also be found on platforms like PlayStation and Xbox stores.
“We have to reluctantly announce another delay for Pragmata,” stated the development team. “Our team is dedicated to making the best game possible, but we need more time. Rest assured, we are committed to delivering a final product that justifies your patience.”
So, is Pragmata destined to join the ranks of forgotten projects like Deep Down, or could it eventually resurface in the style of Fumito Ueda’s The Last Guardian and amaze its loyal fans? Perhaps Capcom is eyeing a next-generation console release? The future is uncertain, but one thing is clear: Pragmata has left a lasting impression on the gaming community, and it would be a real misstep for Capcom to let that enthusiasm fizzle out again.
