Stress Level Zero has hit a home run with their physics-based sandbox game, Bonelab (2022), on the Oculus Quest. Yet, the developer has kept fans waiting for the equally celebrated BONEWORKS (2019) to make its debut on Meta’s latest standalone devices. Well, the wait seems to be nearing its end.
If you haven’t had the pleasure of diving into Boneworks on a PC VR headset, you’re missing out on a gripping VR action-adventure experience. This game is not just about exploring—it’s all about using cutting-edge physics mechanics as you navigate through dynamic environments. It’s a bit of a rollercoaster, demanding players to engage in physics-driven combat and think outside the box when it comes to problem-solving.
Brandon Laatsch, co-founder of Stress Level Zero, recently took to the platform X to share some exciting plans for 2025. He revealed that the studio is in the thick of things, working on updates to its specialized Marrow Engine—designed for Unity—and busy preparing Boneworks for a release on both Quest 3 and the newly announced Quest 3S.
In his post, Laatsch noted: “Our goals for ’25 include releasing Patch 7, 8, 9 for Bonelab with Marrow 2, 2.1, 2.2, and in tandem, bringing Boneworks to Quest 3. Meanwhile, pre-production for the next game is also underway. Aligning Marrow for cross-compatibility is our aim. Boneworks is a bit of a sibling but comes with its challenges. Good luck, SLZ!”
It’s of particular interest that Laatsch mentions both Marrow’s 2.0 rollout and Boneworks development for Quest 3 are moving forward simultaneously with the team laying the groundwork for their next big project.
For Quest enthusiasts who can’t wait, there’s already a workaround—a fan-made mod called ‘Labworks’—letting Quest 2 and above users experience Boneworks. Laatsch has assured the community that this mod, painstakingly crafted by indie developer ‘volx64’ over two years, is here to stay. However, he hinted that the upcoming native Quest 3 version will receive a broader overhaul thanks to updates from the Marrow Engine, offering much more than a straightforward port.
While there’s no launch date in sight just yet, you can bet we’ll be keeping a close eye on Laatsch’s X account and Stress Level Zero’s YouTube page for all the latest news and announcements. Stay tuned!
