Absolute Drift and Art of Rally developer, Funselektor, along with Strelka Games, are ready to bring us an exciting new off-roading experience with their game, Over the Hill. The first gameplay trailer just made its debut at the Triple-i Initiative indie showcase. Originally announced in January, this game maintains Funselektor’s signature sleek and minimalistic design. Think SnowRunner but with a clever twist – they’re leaving out the traditional vehicle trailers and instead putting their creative spin on game trailers themselves.
The trailer, which has already built up a significant buzz with more than 200,000 wishlists on Steam, even without a confirmed release date, promises plenty of muddy adventures. Players can look forward to winching out of sticky situations while also enjoying the game’s stunning visuals. The best part? You won’t have to foot the hefty maintenance bill of a real off-road vehicle each time you tackle tough terrains.
In Over the Hill, you’re free to invite up to three friends to join you as you explore with vintage off-road vehicles dating from the 1960s to the 1980s. This aligns perfectly with Funselektor’s nostalgic vehicle themes, except now, you’ll traverse through environments offering various seasons and weather conditions.
The game features a straightforward UI, allowing for a more immersive experience. The mini-map, reminiscent of an Ordnance Survey map, feels delightfully old-school – the kind your dad might pull out during a scenic road trip. We also catch a glimpse of how the winching system works, which will feel very familiar to fans of games like SnowRunner.
Additionally, the game offers some customization options, letting you tweak your vehicle’s performance and style to conquer the toughest roads. And for those who love capturing memories, a photo mode is included. You can snap photos after heroically reaching a mountain peak or capture the hilarious moment you tumble down after misjudging a cliff.
