It’s always fascinating to see how fans of “The Witcher 3” manage to blend elements from other beloved games into their mods. The latest addition feels like it took a page straight out of “Skyrim.” Remember when someone cleverly integrated Kazuma Kiryu’s iconic back tattoo onto Geralt? Well, now there’s a mod that lets you channel your inner Dragonborn by riding a dragon, akin to those epic Solstheim adventures.
Many of you might recall some of the incredible Witcher 3 mods we spotlighted last year. From added quests and explorations on a ship where you could actually fall through its deck, to the option of experiencing the game as Ciri sporting her futuristic Witcher 4 attire—these creations are nothing short of impressive. And let’s not forget, none of these would come to life without the versatile REDkit tools.
This latest creation, dubbed ‘Herald of the White Frost,’ comes from modder errornoaccess. They’re the same creative mind behind the unique centaur Geralt mod, which provided a few hours of entertainment for me last November. They’ve also introduced players to a variety of mounts, including griffins, fiends, and even Tomira, the alchemist from White Orchard!
The new mod features a “custom dracolizard monster” that you’ll need to defeat in an intense boss battle. Once conquered, you’ll gain the ability to soar through the skies on its back, reminiscent of the sometimes-forgotten dragon riding mechanic in “Skyrim.”
If you’re looking for the dragon, named Unhcegila or the Herald of the White Frost, you’ll spot it in the frozen village during the quest ‘Through Time and Space’ or White Orchard. Alternatively, you can also summon it using a “Mysterious Sapphire Crystal,” available at four designated merchants detailed in the mod description.
The ensuing battle is not for the faint-hearted, as per the feedback from fellow mod users. Defeating this beast awards you the “Horn of the Frozen Flame,” essential for calling upon your new draconic ride. It’s anticipated that summoning follows the same mechanics as in the centaur mod—assign it like a torch, then summon your dragon. Initially, some in-game guidance will ease you into mastering the dragon riding controls.
