Meta has secured a long-term partnership with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), marking its role as the ‘Official Fan Technology Partner’. This collaboration hints at more immersive ways to enjoy mixed martial arts through Meta’s Quest and other platforms.
The UFC has big plans to use Meta’s cutting-edge technology to enhance how fans engage with the sport’s global following through tools like Meta AI, Meta Glasses, Meta Quest, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads.
Part of this endeavor includes Meta becoming the ‘Official AI Glasses Partner’ for the UFC. Together, they aim to use these innovative glasses to create unique experiences during UFC events.
Reflecting on this significant partnership, UFC President and CEO Dana White expressed his enthusiasm, “We’ve teamed up with some incredible partners over the years, but I’m genuinely excited for what Mark and his team at Meta will do for our fans. Meta’s tech expertise is unmatched, and they’re about to transform fan interactions. We’ve already initiated some intriguing projects, such as a revamp of our fighter rankings system that I’ll reveal soon. The coming years will thrill UFC supporters like never before.”
Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s founder and CEO, who is also a passionate follower of the sport, having participated in Jiu Jitsu contests himself, shared his excitement about this collaboration. “As someone who loves this sport, I can’t wait to help fans experience it in novel ways,” he mentioned.
Earlier this year, White joined Meta’s board of directors, alongside notable figures like John Elkann, CEO of investment firm Exor, and tech investor Charlie Songhurst.
Although specifics about the impact on Meta’s Quest are still unfolding, the plan includes integrating UFC’s presence in Pay-Per-View events and Fight Nights. Expect to see the UFC brand in the Octagon and innovative fan interactions in arena settings. Additionally, the partnership extends to Meta’s social platform Threads, which will feature exclusive UFC content.
The collaboration between UFC and Meta began in 2022 with streaming 180-degree Fight Pass events in Horizon Worlds, Meta’s social VR platform, and the Xtadium app. This new agreement may further broaden UFC visibility on Quest.
Both organizations promise to release more details about this exciting partnership soon.
