In the vibrant world of Monster Hunter Wilds, you’ll encounter dapperwings, a fascinating species of flying endemic life. Early on, you’ll find yourself on a quest titled “Samin’s Research Report,” which is part of your assignment from the diligent research team stationed at the Windward Plains base camp. This mission builds upon the earlier “Dareel’s Research Report”—a task that had you capturing tracktail lizards.
Successfully finding and capturing a dapperwing isn’t too tricky if you know where to begin. Our trusty guide is here to help you discover their habitat in Monster Hunter Wilds and guide you through the process of capturing one to complete the quest.
### Locating Dapperwings in Monster Hunter Wilds
Your search for a dapperwing should begin in the lush wilderness of the Scarlet Forest. A promising starting point is the Bower of the Great Tree, known as Area 7, where a pop-up camp is conveniently located. From there, we made our way to Area 6 and identified three key spots rich with dapperwings.
These creatures often appear in flocks, comfortably perched on fallen branches and tree trunks. We observed them most frequently during daylight hours. Their bird-like chirps are a helpful clue when you’re nearby.
For more assistance, head east from the coordinates marked “6” on your map, and keep your eyes peeled for these birds nestled in the treetops.
### Capturing a Dapperwing
Once you spot a dapperwing, capturing it is your next challenge. Equip your capture net through either the item bar or your Essential Items radial menu. If the target is too high, simply mount your Seikret for that extra boost in height.
Approach the dapperwings with care to avoid startling them into flight. Unlike the tracktail lizards, dapperwings tend to stay above ground, so you have more leeway to get close. Use the new rectangle reticle; move in until it turns yellow-orange and take your shot.
Remember to press L2/LT—not the usual square/X—to ensure a successful capture.
Upon completing the “Samin’s Research Report” side mission, you’ll earn some rewarding goodies: ten blue mushrooms, five honey, 50 guild points, and experience to bolster both your hunter rank and palico level.
