You’re not imagining things, and this isn’t a bizarre, drug-fueled dream or some wild cross-media promotion—although it sure is a clever marketing move for the American footwear brand. Epic Games has rolled out a new cosmetic item in Fortnite called “Kicks,” letting players customize their avatars with a selection of shoes. So, yes, now Zuko can totally rock a pair of Nike sneakers in the middle of a battle royale.
This month, Fortnite’s introduction of Kicks brings with it an exciting lineup of shoes, set to be unveiled in two drops. The first drop showcases four different pairs, each with its own price tag. The classic white leather Nike trainers will set you back 800 V-bucks, but if you’re aiming for something with a little more flair, the galaxy-patterned high tops are priced at 1,000 V-bucks. Personally, I have a soft spot for the Chomp Stompers shark slippers. They’re adorable and more budget-friendly at just 600 V-bucks.
If you’re thinking of splurging on Kicks, be prepared to stretch your gaming budget a bit. With 1,000 V-bucks costing roughly $8.99, many players have aired their grievances about the steep prices. Plus, there’s a catch—Kicks are compatible only with a select few Fortnite characters. While you can deck out Satoru Gojo and John Wick with the new footwear options, don’t expect the same for Avatar Aang, unfortunately. Despite these limitations, there are plenty of wacky combinations possible, allowing players to craft some truly out-there looks.
