RuneScape’s well-known developer, Jagex, has welcomed Jon Bellamy as their new CEO.
Bellamy steps in for Phil Mansell, who has served in the role since 2017. Bellamy isn’t a stranger to Jagex; he was part of the company from 2015 to 2018, contributing to the strategy and M&A team. After leaving Jagex, he embarked on a journey that took him to London Venture Partners and Huuuge Games, where he dedicated nearly five years, ultimately rising to the role of chief commercial officer.
Beyond these roles, Bellamy has advised companies like Pixion, Kohort, Stealth, Maximillian, and interestingly enough, CVC, one of Jagex’s owners. Even more noteworthy is his ongoing role as a board member at Jagex since October 2024.
“Taking the helm at Jagex and guiding a game franchise beloved by millions, including myself, is a huge honor,” Bellamy expressed.
He continued, “I’m eager to collaborate with the wonderful team, whom I’ve gotten to know well during my time on the Board. My goal is to keep our games at the forefront of the industry. I intend to spend valuable time with the team, revisiting our aspirations for Jagex, and soon I’ll share my comprehensive vision with the RuneScape community.”
Reflecting on the transition, Mansell shared, “After an amazing 14 years with RuneScape and eight years as Jagex’s CEO, it’s time for me to step down and pass the torch to Jon Bellamy. Working with our exceptionally talented and passionate team, we’ve achieved remarkable growth in both the company and our player community, establishing Jagex as a pioneer in player-driven games and a true leader in the gaming industry. As the company turns this new page, I’m thrilled to hand over leadership to someone who truly cares for our games and our business just as I do. I’m excited to support Jon as he continues to build on the solid foundation we’ve laid.”
