Intel seems to be pushing forward in the discrete GPU scene, as recent shipping information hints at the development of a new Battlemage GPU, along with another mysterious model.
Recently, Intel caught everyone’s attention with their announcement of the Arc B580 and B570 Battlemage GPUs. These sparked significant interest, especially since NVIDIA and AMD hadn’t rolled out their next-gen options at that point. As we near the end of Q2, though, Intel has remained silent about their desktop GPU plans, leading many to wonder if they have any intention to expand. Yet, the latest shipping details suggest a different story.
Among the shipping data, details about a new GPU dubbed “BMG-G31” have surfaced. This chip appears more advanced than current Battlemage offerings. It’s rumored to boast around 24-32 Xe2 cores, a 256-bit memory interface, and 16 GB of GDDR6 memory. Despite this, some online buzz hinted at the possible cancellation of the BMG-G31 model, suggesting it won’t hit the consumer market. The manifests categorize this version under “R&D purpose,” hinting it could be designed for AI or professional applications.
In addition, another entry in the shipping logs mentions something called BMG “C32.” The naming raises eyebrows, mixing Battlemage and Celestial elements. However, sources believe this belongs to the Battlemage series and could be a revised version of the BMG-G31, implying Intel’s focus on diverse Battlemage variants. The bigger question remains—are any of these products destined for consumer desktops?
As Intel develops its discrete GPU range, industry watchers are keen to see their strategy, particularly as they venture into the Xe3 “Celestial” architecture featured in the upcoming Panther Lake SoCs. With new leadership steering Intel, the company appears to be prioritizing AI technology, possibly indicating a stronger focus on AI-specific GPUs going forward.
