We’re finally about to see the official debut of the much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 this week, putting to rest the swirling rumors and speculation that have dominated the scene lately.
An insider known as Nate, from the Nate the Hate Podcast, spilled the beans on Nintendo’s strategy for unveiling the successor to its popular portable home console. At about 17 minutes and 36 seconds into his podcast, Nate revealed what to expect from the big announcement.
“I can confirm for you right now that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be unveiled in the coming week. My sources tell me it’s happening on Thursday, January 16,” Nate stated.
He went on to add, “It’s only days away from when this episode goes live. I’ve caught wind of some bits and pieces about what’s going to be showcased. To be honest, these tidbits seem a bit scattered, but they might fit together more elegantly once the reveal happens.”
Nate emphasized the console’s preview will heavily zero in on the hardware itself. “There isn’t going to be anything significant about the games. At best, you might catch a glimpse of a game playing on the console or a TV screen, depending on how they decide to produce this presentation. But don’t expect software to be the star of the show here. So, if the trailer doesn’t flaunt any games, don’t be caught off guard.”
He drew a parallel with the October 2016 announcement, saying, “Back then, even though the focus was on hardware, they still showed glimpses of games like ‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’, ‘Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’, ‘Skyrim’, NBA 2K18, and Splatoon 2. These were more teasers than announcements, and some weren’t officially confirmed for quite a while after.”
However, Nate suggested this reveal might scale back on spotlighting games. “It might simply introduce the system, highlight its features and what the Joy-Con can do, maybe even launch the new logo and packaging.”
As far as future plans, Nate suggested a software showcase might be in the pipeline. “From what I’m hearing, late February might see a dedicated showcase highlighting the new games for the Switch 2. It should present a mix of games from Nintendo and third parties. Personally, it’s hard to imagine Nintendo not showing at least one game running on the device in some form.”
Amidst all these rumors, Nintendo has officially stated that its new console will be unveiled before the end of March 2025. They’ve also confirmed that the new hardware will be backward compatible, allowing players to enjoy their old favorites from the current Switch.
So, we’re expecting the Nintendo Switch 2 to be revealed before March 31, 2025, and we’re looking forward to its global release sometime in 2025.
