This week, the Helldivers 2 community has been buzzing with news of game director Johan Pilestedt taking a sabbatical. However, despite the chatter, there’s been some in-game excitement as well, offering players a chance to tackle a persistent enemy from last year.
Recently, players were deployed to the bug front to gather samples that could transform a bothersome space fog into a new energy source. Now, they’re being sent back to Automaton territory since the Illuminate are still reeling from the beating they received earlier this month.
On the bright side, it looks like Super Earth might finally have a break from dealing with the Jet Brigade—those flashy flying bots that were a major threat until the big Illuminate invasion back in December. According to Arrowhead, “The Helldivers are tasked with striking deep into Automaton territory to liberate Chort Bay and demolish the Jet Brigade Factories there. This mission could bring an end to the Jet Brigade’s terror, which almost halted the construction of the Democracy Space Station on Gaellivare.”
In a notable update shared on Twitter, Arrowhead announced, “After the Helldivers’ commendable efforts in sample collection, the Xenoentomology Center now has ample resources to advance work on technology resistant to Gloom. Thanks to the DSS’s clever maneuvers, the heavy Terminid attack…”
The full briefing sheds light on the Automatons’ intent to rebuild the Jet Brigade. “Current intel suggests the unit is somewhat reconstructed,” it states. “An immediate strike into their domain could thwart their plans to regain full strength.”
Reflecting on the previous major operation, Arrowhead appreciates the “heroic and honest sample collection efforts by the Helldivers,” which have significantly helped the Xenoentomology Center. They’ve gathered more than enough materials to move forward with developing Gloom-resistant technology. Quite the achievement!
