Green Hell VR, crafted by Incuvo, is bringing a new layer of excitement this month with its long-promised co-op mode arriving on the Quest and PSVR 2 platforms. This immersive adaptation of the beloved open-world survival game first introduced the idea back in April 2023, and fans have been eagerly awaiting its arrival. Mark your calendars for December 16th, when this new multiplayer feature will be available for free to those who already own the game on PSVR 2 and Quest 2, 3, and 3S.
Designed to enrich the game’s challenging solo experience, the cooperative mode lets up to four players team up in the treacherous jungle. Friends can now join forces, using melee and ranged weapons to gather food and defend against relentless jungle predators. Additionally, they can construct shelters as a defense against environmental threats. To make teamwork even more essential, players in need of healing will visibly show signs, and teammates can assist each other by removing leeches and addressing injuries.
However, it’s important to note that this co-op update won’t feature cross-play capabilities. Players on different platforms, including PC-to-VR or Quest-to-PSVR 2, will not be able to join each other in the jungle just yet. The studio mentioned in a post on X that their focus was purely on developing the multiplayer update. They hinted that cross-play support could be considered later, acknowledging that it would have significantly delayed the current release.
Andrzej Wychowaniec, the CEO of Incuvo, expressed just how crucial this co-op mode is for their VR community on Meta Quest and PSVR2. He acknowledged the anticipation from players who have looked forward to this feature since the game’s debut on these platforms. “It was essential to make sure it delivers an engaging, cooperative survival experience,” he shared.
As for the SteamVR version, there’s no official word yet on getting this co-op update. The chances appear slim at the moment since the PC VR version seems to have taken a backseat. The last major update it saw was back in late 2022, as Incuvo seemed to focus more on launching the ‘Spirits of Amazonia Part I’ expansion for Quest and PSVR 2 users.
In essence, while the co-op feature is a significant step forward for Green Hell VR, cross-platform gamers will need to be patient for broader multiplayer options.
