As FromSoftware gears up to shake things up with the upcoming Elden Ring Nightreign, it’s hard not to reminisce about the original thrill of Dark Souls. There’s something uniquely exhilarating about scratching a soapstone onto the ground, waiting for someone to summon you, or finally succeeding in defeating Ornstein and Smough with the help of a random ally. However, teaming up with a friend to traverse the entirety of Lordran often turned into a puzzle with constant obstacles and restarts. This changed, however, with a gifted modder behind Elden Ring’s popular modifications releasing a new version specifically for the first Dark Souls, simplifying online gameplay.
The Dark Souls Seamless Co-op mod, crafted by ‘Yui’, is a game-changer for those wanting to enjoy FromSoftware’s iconic title with friends online without complications. Players can journey from the Undead Asylum all the way to the Kiln of the First Flame smoothly—no more disconnecting after defeating bosses, gone are the restrictive fog walls, and everyone’s game remains synchronized.
This clever tweak by Yui ensures that when a player dies in a multiplayer session, they simply reappear at the last bonfire they used. Your game progression stays intact, too. A single player resting at a bonfire resets the game’s world for the whole group, and once you head back to your version of Lordran, any progress made counts for everyone involved. You can even expand your co-op party to include up to five players.
Yui has also taken steps to adjust the game’s balance, offering a challenge that scales with the number of players joining in. You have the flexibility to tweak the settings yourself if you wish, even choosing to allow invasions by other players if you miss the adrenaline rush of spotting a red phantom on the horizon.
One thing to keep in mind, though, is that using Seamless Co-op disconnects you from FromSoftware’s matchmaking servers. This approach safeguards you from accidental bans, meaning you’ll need to stick with players who have the mod installed.
With changes to co-op play soon coming with Elden Ring Nightreign, there’s no better opportunity to dive back into Lordran with your buddies. If you’re interested, you can easily get started with Yui’s modification.
