On April 17, 2025, Blizzard gave gamers something to talk about with the release of a gameplay trailer for Overwatch 2’s Season 16. This exciting update rolled out a new Stadium Mode, introduced the Damage Hero Freja, and teased an upcoming collaboration with the iconic anime series, Gundam Wing.
Jump to eleven days later, and Blizzard dropped another trailer featuring gameplay from the Gundam Wing crossover, slated to launch on April 29, 2025.
This Overwatch 2 and Gundam Wing event will run from April 29 to May 13, 2025. During this limited-time celebration, players can snag unique skins for various Overwatch Heroes, all inspired by the mechs from Gundam.
Some of the standout skins include:
– Mercy styled as Wing Gundam Zero
– Ramattra transformed into Epyon
– Soldier: 76 as Tallgeese
– Reaper channeling Deathscythe
Besides these cosmetic upgrades, players can earn Gundam-themed rewards, like the Shinigami title and Zero System spray, by conquering special event challenges.
Gundam Wing, for those not in the know, is a massive hit from the renowned Mobile Suit Gundam series that’s been captivating audiences since 1979. The anime tells the gripping story of five Gundam pilots battling for freedom in a universe filled with political drama and intense mecha battles.
It’s quite a twist seeing Gundam team up with Overwatch, especially since Bandai Namco tried their hand at an Overwatch-style game with Gundam Evolution back in 2022. Though the game didn’t last, closing in 2023, its spirit lives on through this new venture.
Blizzard clearly loves a good crossover. From Cowboy Bebop to One Punch Man and Transformers, they continuously bring fans intriguing collaborations. Now, with the Gundam Wing tie-in hot on the heels of Diablo 4’s partnership with Berserk, it seems they’re all in.
Could this mean a potential crossover between World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy 14 is on the horizon? Unlikely, but with Blizzard’s current streak, anything seems possible.
