February 2025 is shaping up to be an intriguing month for gamers, even though it’s not expected to bring a packed lineup of major releases. One notable addition, however, is Keep Driving, a unique driving RPG that combines turn-based battles with collecting various items.
If you haven’t heard of this delightfully quirky game, let me paint you a picture. I got my hands on its demo during last year’s Steam Next Fest, and while I only embarrassingly got bested by a puddle once, it was quite the experience. Picture this: you’re on a road trip to a friend’s place, but the journey isn’t just about getting from A to B. You and your trusty vehicle must navigate through all the usual dangers of the road and those inevitable human needs like food and rest along the way.
The full version of Keep Driving is set to hit Steam for PC on February 6, a release date recently dropped by the Swedish devs at YCJY Games in a cheerful tweet.
There’s also a new trailer that shows off some hilarious turn-based battles against everything from tractors to sheep and even potholes. It gives a sneak peek of the extra vehicles you can stockpile with the essentials needed to get through the journey, including hitchhikers you’ll meet. I’m fond of the demo’s not-quite-Volvo ride, but there’s something about cruising in a pickup truck that really appeals to my inner Johnny Cash enthusiast.
For now, Keep Driving is sticking with a PC release, but one of the developers hinted at the possibility of a console version in the future, although they’re still figuring out the logistics, mentioning the Switch as a likely candidate. Here’s hoping they also consider revisiting our beloved PS2, so I can effortlessly switch between this and Need For Speed Underground.
Until then, I’m eagerly anticipating the full version of Keep Driving and hoping it amps up that same laid-back, adventurous spirit that I first fell in love with.
