Imagine doing something you thought was impossible: exploring a movie set right from the comfort of wherever you are. You’re about to embark on this virtual adventure, experiencing all the excitement of the stunts, sets, and actors, with none other than director Eli Roth as your guide.
io9 is thrilled to introduce an exciting new behind-the-scenes video from the set of the upcoming video game adaptation, Borderlands. In collaboration with Light Sail VR, Roth captured jaw-dropping footage with stars like Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, and Ariana Greenblatt. While this footage shines in VR, it’s equally impressive in 2D.
Roth expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “I’ve been passionate about VR since 2018 and have been experimenting with a GoPro 360. During the pandemic, when set visits became impossible, I wanted to give fans a taste of the on-set experience as we brought the vibrant world of Borderlands to life. You’ll witness the stunning sets crafted by our talented art department in Budapest, join the actors in their intense rehearsals, and see Cate Blanchett and Ariana Greenblatt perform high-flying stunts from a truck bed. Collaborating with Light Sail VR, we’ve created an immersive experience that puts you right in the heart of the action. It truly captures the essence and atmosphere of being on set with us in the wild world of Borderlands.”
The film features a legendary bounty hunter, portrayed by Cate Blanchett, who returns to her home planet, Pandora, on a mission to find the missing daughter of the sinister Atlas, played by Edgar Ramírez. Along her journey, she teams up with a colorful group of characters embarking on a quest to unravel one of Pandora’s greatest mysteries. Joining the ensemble cast are Kevin Hart, Jack Black, Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Gina Gershon, and Jamie Lee Curtis. Borderlands is set to hit theaters on August 9.
