Exciting news for "Dune Awakening" fans has just emerged, thanks to a concise update from Funcom detailing the game’s post-launch plans. Alongside this, new PC specifications have been unveiled in an official announcement on the game’s Steam page.
A brief video, presented by Joel Byros, the chief creative officer, outlines what’s in store for "Dune Awakening" once it rolls out on May 20 this year. Byros, representing Funcom, confirmed that unlike many other MMOs, "Dune Awakening" won’t adopt a subscription model. Instead, players can expect optional paid DLC packs released in tandem with free updates.
These complimentary updates are set to include quality-of-life upgrades, fresh features, new storyline content, and more—the essential ingredients to keep a live-service game thriving. Although specifics about the optional DLCs remain under wraps, players can either purchase them individually or opt for a season pass that bundles several elements together.
Byros also shared that some players who purchase certain editions of the game will enjoy early access, beginning on May 15—a lighthearted nod to those eager to dive in ahead of others. This early access isn’t just about getting a head start; it’s also a strategic move to help balance server load, ensuring a smooth experience when the game officially launches—a critical aspect of successful MMO launches.
In addition to the video, the Steam post revealed some vital information on the PC specs needed to run the game:

- OS: Windows 10 64-bit (or newer)

The post also teases some intriguing PC features that players can explore, such as NVIDIA’s DLSS 4, making "Dune Awakening" one of the pioneering games to support it, along with AMD’s FSR, Intel’s XeSS 2, Razer Chroma RGB, and Razer Sensa HD Haptics. So, if you’re planning to enjoy this on PC, these features promise to make your gaming experience even more exciting.
What do you make of this business model? Personally, I’m all for it—I already juggle so many subscriptions, so a game that allows me to jump in and out at my convenience, similar to "Guild Wars 2," fits my style perfectly. No gripes here! Plus, it looks like we’ll be hearing more soon, as a gameplay stream was hinted at for March 24 in the tail end of the Steam blog post.
