Devolver Digital has once again embraced its trademark irreverence with the latest installment of what it’s humorously calling the “Devolver Delayed Awards.” This tongue-in-cheek awards show is entirely pre-recorded and highlights three games that have had their release dates pushed back to 2025.
True to its style, Devolver brought its usual dose of snark, giving a playful nod to its developers for their “bravery and determination” in delaying their titles into the next fiscal year. Let’s take a look at the cheeky winners and the amusing (fictional) nominees they competed against:
– Best Inadvertent Tripping Simulator
– Best Late-Stage Capitalism Roguelite
– Best Glass Demon in a Leading Role
In addition to these hilarious categories celebrating pretend games—like the fictitious “Windshield Repair Simulator,” which sounds oddly intriguing—the event featured speeches from the developers of the actual delayed games, now scheduled for a 2025 debut. Notably, Sam Eng of Skate Story managed to injure his arm, so anyone miffed about its delay might want to show some empathy and hold their peace.
This isn’t the first time Devolver has taken such a bold approach; back in 2023, they parodied the well-known Nintendo Direct format with the Devolver Delayed Showcase. That event announced delays for several games including The Plucky Squire, Stick It to the Stickman, Anger Foot, Pepper Grinder, and of course, Skate Story.
While these kinds of delays are no doubt challenging from a business standpoint, it’s refreshing to see Devolver prioritize creative vision and quality over rushing out incomplete games for the sake of profit.
According to Devolver Digital’s official site, there are other intriguing titles like Possessor(s), Tenjutsu, Human Fall Flat 2, and Forestrike still awaiting official launch dates.
