Whether you’re a newcomer to the Days Gone universe or a seasoned drifter returning to the open roads, there’s no shortage of surprises and thrills to keep you engaged. For a deeper look into what’s new, don’t miss our detailed blog post about the Days Gone Remastered announcement.
One of the standout features in this version is the introduction of Horde Assault, a riveting survival arcade mode that promises a robust challenge. Before you jump in, catch a glimpse of this exhilarating new mode by watching the gameplay trailer below.
In Horde Assault, the challenge is real. Players must use their wits and skills to fend off waves of increasingly tough enemies, including formidable foes like Breakers, Reachers, and the fearsome Rager bears. As time goes on, enemies get tougher, and survival becomes more daunting in this ever-evolving landscape. The thrilling mode embodies the ethos of Days Gone, representing a unique twist on its familiar open-world game play. So get ready to show those Freakers who’s boss in this endless action-packed mode.
Your journey in Horde Assault begins in Cascade, equipped with only a sidearm. Battle your way through the Freakers to reach the all-important Drifter bike, your ticket to exploring the sprawling landscape. Along your path, look out for Supply Boxes filled with powerful weapons. With over 20 weapons at your disposal, including a newly introduced flamethrower (not available in Story mode), securing these supplies could mean the difference between life and death. The contents of each Supply Box are random, keeping you on your toes with each new start.
As you fight for survival, the Side Jobs offer critical opportunities to restock ammo and earn extra XP, which is crucial when you’re being pursued by up to 800 Freakers. If you’re skilled enough to survive 30 minutes, brace yourself for the Ultimate Horde, a relentless swarm that never ends—experience it firsthand to truly understand the thrill.
As you progress in Horde Assault, you can earn rewards that unlock playable characters, patch cosmetics, and Injectors that significantly impact how you play. These Injectors, familiar to Days Gone veterans, have evolved with new modifiers. Positive Injectors boost your score but increase the challenge, while Negative Injectors make survival easier but come with a score penalty.
To give you a taste, let’s highlight a couple of Injectors you’ll encounter. “Exploding Freakers” cause enemies to burst upon death, providing a strategic edge when dealing with massive hordes. Meanwhile, “Wanted” kicks the difficulty into high gear from the get-go, testing even the most seasoned players.
Horde Assault offers a Reward path with 35 levels packed with enticing prizes, including Injectors, character skins, and patch cosmetics. This update introduces six new, never-before-playable characters, like the fan-favorite Skizzo, O’Brian, and Lisa. Patches, previously introduced in the 2019 Challenges, return purely as cosmetic pieces for Deacon, enhancing your bragging rights—and they transfer over to the main story for continuity.
Though meant for endgame play, Horde Assault is accessible from the start. Newcomers might benefit from exploring the main story first, but daring players can dive straight into the heart of Days Gone’s intense world. Expect at least 10 more hours of riveting gameplay, adding substantial value to an already rich package.
Mark your calendars—Horde Assault will be ready to play April 25, 2025, on the PS5 with Days Gone Remastered and on PC with the Broken Road DLC. Pre-orders are open on the PlayStation Store today. For those who’ve already purchased Days Gone on PS4, the remastered version is available as an upgrade for just $10 USD.
You can also add the Days Gone Broken Road DLC to your wishlist on Steam and the Epic Games Store. We eagerly await your chance to dive back into Days Gone, experiencing all the fresh content and reliving Deacon St. John’s epic story.
*Note that prices may vary by country, and PS4 disc owners will need to insert the disc into the PS5 to access the digital version upgrade. The upgrade isn’t available for PS4 games redeemed through PlayStation Plus.
