Bigscreen recently unveiled its next-generation Beyond PC VR headset, which is set to make waves with enhancements in field-of-view (FOV) and visual clarity. This leap in technology is largely thanks to the incorporation of innovative pancake lenses. Beyond aesthetics and functionality improvements aimed at appealing to both home users and enterprise, the headset also sports a new adjustable interpupillary distance (IPD) and a versatile Lightseal facial interface, setting new standards in user comfort.
The upcoming headset will be available in two variants: Beyond 2 and the Beyond 2e. Contrary to other tech products like Apple’s iPhone 16e, the ‘e’ in Beyond 2e refers to its integrated eye-tracking capability. This advanced eye-tracking system, though compact, promises AI-enhanced computer vision for seamless, privacy-conscious tracking and seamless integration with platforms like SteamVR, OpenXR, and VRChat. A beta version is expected to launch by the summer of 2025.
Both headsets are priced quite competitively, with Beyond 2 at $1,019 and Beyond 2e at $1,219. However, Bigscreen is extending a special discount for owners of the original Beyond models, reducing the costs to $849 and $1049, respectively. The first units are on track to roll out by April, and an optional halo-style strap is anticipated to be available by the third quarter of 2025. Fashion-conscious users will appreciate the color choices: Carbon Black, Crystal Clear, and Nuclear Orange.
Similar to its predecessor, the slim and lightweight Beyond 2 leverages the SteamVR tracking standard, supporting both SteamVR 1.0 and 2.0 base stations. It is compatible with a wide array of SteamVR gear, including body trackers and Valve’s much-praised Index controllers, also known as ‘Knuckles’. Users will need a VR-capable PC to fully utilize the Beyond 2 alongside the necessary base stations. More information on PC compatibility is available through Bigscreen’s website.
While the display resolution remains unchanged from the 2023 Beyond model—the dual 1-inch 2,560 × 2,560 micro-OLED displays—the inclusion of new pancake lenses in Beyond 2 marks a significant upgrade. These lenses extend the FOV to an impressive 116-degree diagonal, a step up from the original’s 102-degree FOV. Moreover, the headset is now 16% lighter, weighing in at just 107 grams, making it impressively light compared to other standalone headsets like Meta Quest 3 (515g) or Apple Vision Pro (650g).
Users will notice an improvement in brightness and reduced glare, too, thanks to the new pancake lens design, which offers superior edge-to-edge clarity. For the first time, an adjustable IPD feature is offered, allowing for personalization with included tools—complete with markings that guide users in setting each lens for maximum clarity.
The headset retains compatibility with various accessories from the original Beyond and includes a universal-fit Lightseal interface from the get-go. For those considering upgrading their accessories, the original Beyond’s add-ons continue to be supported, including fiber optic cables, the link box, and the Audio Strap. Notably, prescription lens inserts will also remain compatible with Beyond 2 and Beyond 2e, provided they are manufactured post-2025.
Bigscreen is set to launch a halo-style mount in Q3 2025, drawing inspiration from night vision goggles. This mount offers precise adjustments for eye relief and tilt, accommodating multiple configurations with or without facial interfaces.
Customers eager to get their hands on the latest models can place orders directly on Bigscreen’s website. The headsets will ship from their Los Angeles facility to regions including the US, Canada, Japan, UK, Europe, New Zealand, and Australia. Plans for further expansion to markets such as South Korea, Mexico, Israel, and the UAE are in motion for later this year.
