Bandai Namco, a major name in the Japanese gaming industry, is making a significant strategic shift by closing its Bandai Namco Online division. This move sees the operations of the online-focused subsidiary being integrated into the broader Bandai Namco framework. So far, there’s no clear information on how this transition will impact the employees involved.
Established back in 2009, Bandai Namco Online was specifically geared towards developing online games, producing titles like Dragon Ball Z: X KeeperZ, Gundam Evolution, and Blue Protocol.
The company explained that its decision to dismantle this segment and absorb its functions stems from “recent changes in the environment surrounding the game business, and with the aim of strengthening the business management system of the entire digital business.”
In an earlier announcement this year, Bandai Namco shared that it would be winding down Blue Protocol—a collaborative MMO project with Amazon—scheduled for closure on January 18th, 2025.
