AMD has officially squashed the buzz surrounding a supposed 32 GB iteration of their Radeon RX 9070 XT graphics card. If you caught our earlier piece, you might recall that a leaker on Chiphell suggested we could be seeing this hefty memory model in the near future. The speculation even implied that it would cater to the ‘Gaming’ series instead of the PRO line-up.
But as it turns out, those whispers were nothing more than hot air. Frank Azor from AMD has taken to Techpowerup’s X account to set the record straight, confirming that no such variant is on the horizon. Here’s his straightforward dismissal:
“No, the 9070 XT card is not coming in 32 GB capacity,” he tweeted.
For those keeping track, the Radeon RX 9070 XT is packed with 16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM. Based on what we know about the card’s capabilities, even if a 32 GB version did come to exist, it’s unlikely it would have made a splash in terms of gaming performance. The rumors had suggested the extra memory might be geared towards AI functions with some gaming on the side, but AMD hasn’t jumped on the 32 GB bandwagon for any of its gaming cards thus far. It seems they’ve concluded that such a leap in VRAM for an upper-mid-range GPU isn’t quite justifiable, especially since the RX 9070 XT, which sits at the top of the class with the Navi 48 GPU, probably wouldn’t utilize the additional memory to its full potential.
Other models like the RX 9070 and those based on Navi 44 are expected to fall short when it comes to specifications and performance. AMD has slated the official unveiling of the RX 9000 series for February 28, where all details on specifications, pricing, and performance will be shared.
The card will hit the market in early March, around the same time NVIDIA is set to roll out their GeForce RTX 5070 GPU. In the past, Azor noted that AMD’s 70-class models will be direct competitors to NVIDIA’s equivalent offerings. The coming months promise an exciting showdown as we see how the RX 9070 XT measures up against the anticipated RTX 5070 Ti or RX 5070.
