Nintendo’s president, Shuntaro Furukawa, recently expressed concerns about meeting the heavy demand for Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders through the My Nintendo Store. A lottery system opened for pre-order opportunities attracted over 2.2 million applicants in Japan alone, far more than anticipated.
Furukawa mentioned that the company prepared by securing ample components to manufacture the new consoles. On April 2, Nintendo revealed specifics about the Switch 2 and began accepting lottery entries. Unfortunately, the number of interested buyers dramatically surpassed expectations, exceeding the available stock for the June 5 release.
He acknowledged that many people would likely be disappointed when the lottery results were announced on April 24. Those not selected in the first round will automatically be entered into a second lottery, sparing them the trouble of reapplying. However, even with this additional opportunity, stock remains insufficient to satisfy everyone.
Nintendo is taking steps to improve production and hopes to enhance supply in the future. Starting April 24, both physical and online stores across Japan will also accept pre-orders or lottery entries for the Switch 2, offering more chances for eager fans.
The My Nintendo Store will continue selling consoles post-release, with further details to come. Nintendo is committed to increasing production to meet consumer demand and appreciates the patience and understanding from its community.
Globally, the Nintendo Switch 2 hits shelves on June 5, 2025, with pricing set at £395.99 in the UK, €469.99 across Europe, and $449.99 in the US.
