As the familiar buzz about The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remake fills the air, with fans celebrating its release, it’s interesting to note that Todd Howard has finally acknowledged the existence of The Elder Scrolls 6! In a casual yet noteworthy announcement during the Oblivion Remaster presentation, he confirmed, “Obviously, we’re working on the 6th chapter here.”
This is perhaps the most substantial piece of news we’ve received regarding The Elder Scrolls 6 since back in March 2024. That was when Bethesda revealed that early versions of the game were being tested, hinting that the experience might actually be enjoyable—which, of course, is what every fan hopes for!
Let’s rewind a bit. Before this, a former Skyrim designer had mentioned in October 2023 that there wouldn’t be any updates on the next Elder Scrolls until six months before its release. Around the same time, Phil Spencer humorously predicted that the game was about five years away from its launch date. Fast forward nearly two years, and there’s still very little new information to cling to.
In August 2023, Bethesda confirmed the development was officially underway, a full five years after its first announcement at E3. This delay has many wondering if the game’s announcement came a tad too soon.
Kidding aside, it is reassuring to get even a small signal that Elder Scrolls 6 is still on Bethesda’s radar. When the game was first announced, I was still navigating the hallways of high school; now, adult responsibilities occupy much of my time. It’s safe to say that Bethesda, known for producing stellar RPGs, will likely deliver another masterpiece—if we ever get to see any development progress. Maybe even just a teaser image would suffice for now? At this point, Elder Scrolls fans are waiting with more anticipation than Liam Neeson had while searching for his daughter in Taken.
Share your feelings in the comments below, and let’s start a guessing game about how much student loan debt I’ll have racked up by the time Elder Scrolls 6 finally hits the shelves!
