Coming soon, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is set to land on the much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, and it’s bringing some serious tech upgrades with it. CD Projekt Red confirmed that they’ll use Nvidia’s cutting-edge DLSS technology to boost the game’s performance across both handheld and docked modes. Gamers can expect two main gameplay options: a 30 FPS quality mode and a performance mode aiming for 40 FPS, the latter working seamlessly with screens that support variable refresh rates.
This development arrives amidst Nintendo’s hustle and bustle as they gear up for the Switch 2 launch. Pre-orders, initially delayed in North America due to tariff complications, are scheduled to commence on April 24. While the main console and its games remain at their standard price despite the tariff changes, certain accessories like the Switch 2 Pro Controller have seen a slight price uptick.
The enhanced Nvidia processor in the Switch 2 opens doors for developers to utilize advanced features like DLSS, enabling smoother gameplay experiences. As noted by Digital Foundry via Nintendo Life, Cyberpunk 2077 on the new console will feature both Quality and Performance Modes. The Quality Mode ensures consistent 30 FPS, whilst the Performance Mode dials it up to 40 FPS. Each mode adapts to the player’s preference for handheld or docked play, with the latter enabling a dynamic resolution of 720p at 40 FPS.
The detailed breakdown from Digital Foundry’s Richard Leadbetter revealed that both Quality and Performance Modes target 1080p when docked, making full use of the Switch 2’s capabilities. While handheld mode will scale to 720p, it still maintains a smooth 40 FPS target. It’s worth noting, though, that Cyberpunk 2077 will be utilizing a previous version of Nvidia DLSS, suitable for the console’s Tegra processor, so the very latest Nvidia features like DLSS 4 won’t be present.
Cyberpunk 2077 joins an expanding lineup of third-party titles that will be making their way to Switch 2. Set to be released on June 5, it remains to be seen just how vibrant Night City will feel on this new platform. With technology elevating gameplay experiences, there’s plenty of excitement surrounding how these updates can redefine gaming on Nintendo’s latest hardware.
