Ubisoft, the renowned French publisher, is reportedly gearing up to launch its own battle royale game, aimed squarely at competing with Apex Legends. According to Insider Gaming, this new project, known internally as Scout, seems to bear a striking resemblance to the popular game from Respawn and EA, even using similar artwork during its development phase. The characters in Scout also reportedly mirror those found in Apex Legends. This new title has been in development for a considerable period.
It appears that Ubisoft sees an opportunity to attract players from Apex Legends, especially since Electronic Arts has acknowledged a decline in its financial success. A source mentioned, “The idea is to take advantage of the decreasing Apex player numbers and find a space for another hero-style battle royale in the market.”
This isn’t Ubisoft’s first attempt in the battle royale genre. Back in 2020, they launched Hyperscape, which ultimately shut down just a year and a half later. The announcement of this new game follows Ubisoft’s decision to end the development of another free-to-play shooter, XDefiant, in late 2024.
Meanwhile, fans of Apex Legends can look forward to a revamped version, 2.0, which is scheduled to roll out after April 2026.
