ILM and Lucasfilm have revealed an exciting new project for Star Wars fans: a game titled Star Wars: Beyond Victory – A Mixed Reality Playset. This upcoming release is set to be available exclusively on the Meta Quest 3 and 3S, and it takes players back to the era around the Han Solo prequel, Solo: A Star Wars Story from 2018.
Although details are still emerging, there’s some buzz about a podracing feature within the game. Players will have the opportunity to encounter the podracer Volo Bolus and team up with the well-known Sebulba. This promises to be a thrilling experience combining heart-racing action with cutting-edge technology.
The term "Playset" hints at the possibility of various mixed-reality mini-games being a part of the offering, though the creators have yet to confirm any specifics. ILM has a reputation for gradually unveiling information about their XR games, revealing characters and features bit by bit until launch. As for now, the launch date and trailer remain under wraps.
Attendees at the upcoming Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo will get the first chance to try out the game. The event is scheduled for April 18-20, and participants will be able to explore over a dozen demo stations. Meta also plans to showcase other popular VR titles from the studio, including Vader Immortal and Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge.
The choice to venture into mixed reality is a strategic one. According to Jose Perez III, Director of the game, this technology allows for immersive experiences that bring the beloved Star Wars universe directly into players’ homes in an unprecedented way. Moreover, Meta’s continued support and funding for ILM’s Star Wars ventures undoubtedly provide valuable backing for this innovative project.
