Entertainment powerhouse Warner Bros has reportedly pulled the plug on a planned expansion for Hogwarts Legacy. According to a report by Bloomberg, this expansion was supposed to accompany a Definitive Edition of the Harry Potter action RPG, bringing new storylines to the mix.
The decision to halt the expansion seems to stem from Warner Bros’ assessment that the content didn’t justify the intended pricing. Initially, the project was in the hands of Avalanche Software, the original creators of the game, with collaboration from Rocksteady. Avalanche is said to be focusing its efforts on developing a sequel to the Harry Potter game.
Meanwhile, Rocksteady faced some challenges recently, cutting back on its workforce after deciding to end its support for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which is set for a 2024 release.
Last year, Warner Bros publicly acknowledged that its gaming division wasn’t meeting expectations. In that same timeframe, the company took a significant hit by writing off $200 million for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Additionally, the company has shuttered three of its studios, including the well-regarded Monolith, and its long-standing leader, David Haddad, has announced he is stepping down.
