The team behind Skyblivion, the ambitious mod project aimed at reimagining The Elder Scrolls IV using Skyrim’s engine, has hit a significant milestone by completing the landscaping for every region of their Cyrodiil map.
While there’s still a lot on their plate before the anticipated 2025 release, this achievement marks a major step forward for the developers.
The team announced this progress in a tweet, stating, “With the Niben Basin and Valley complete, all of Cyrodiil’s landscape has had at least a first pass.” The focus now shifts to enhancing previously finished areas, ensuring they meet the high standards the team is aiming for.
This update follows a recent video where the developers shared that they were in the final stages of mapping, with only the Nibenay region remaining at the time. It’s certainly exciting to check that off the list!
As the team moves forward, there seems to be more groundwork to cover. The process likely involves tasks like finalizing navmeshing in various areas to ensure NPCs can navigate smoothly. The goal is to avoid issues where characters struggle with terrain—a common hiccup seen in both the original Skyrim and Oblivion games.
In addition to landscape work, the team remains hard at work on interiors, focusing on quest locations that demand more detailed planning and design compared to standard interiors. At last update, six quests still awaited attention.
In light of this, the team continues to seek out new volunteers with the relevant skills to contribute to the project. If you’re interested, there’s a place for you to get involved!
