EA and Maxis have treated long-time Sims enthusiasts with a delightful surprise for the iconic series’ 25th anniversary. Those long-rumored re-releases of the original two Sims games are indeed happening, and they’re available for purchase starting today.
Rumors had suggested that EA planned to launch these classics digitally on PC by the end of January. True to the whispers, the games became available on January 31, just in time to wrap up the week.
These re-releases can be found on PC platforms such as the EA app, Epic Games Store, and Steam. They’re branded as The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection. You can also grab both in a special Sims 25th Birthday Bundle.
“In celebrating our legacy and acknowledging the fantastic support from our fans, we’re bringing back two beloved titles featuring familiar neighborhoods and cherished characters like the elusive burglar, the quirky genie, and Sunny the Tragic Clown,” EA announced. “Dive back into the nostalgia and charm of these classics that welcomed many of you into our vibrant community.”
Let’s talk pricing. The bundle will set you back $39.99, whereas purchasing The Sims: Legacy Collection alone costs $19.99, and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection comes in at $29.99. Each game includes most of the original expansion packs, although The Sims 2’s IKEA Home Stuff pack is noticeably absent.
While it’s a shame about the missing pack, players will still receive two holiday packs and the H&M Fashion Stuff pack to satisfy any cravings for brand collaborations. EA has also bundled in The Sims 4’s Throwback Fit Kit with the first game and the Grunge Revival Kit with the second. These extras are a nice perk, especially if you haven’t picked them up yet.
So, if you’ve been lounging in EA’s quirky “meme jacuzzi” section of their unique Sims Y2K website, it’s time to towel off and check out these exciting re-releases. They might just be what you’re looking for to relive those classic Sims moments.
