Having just slipped back into the role of the iconic villain, Dr. Robotnik, for Sonic 3, Jim Carrey appears open to the idea of returning for yet another stint as the bad guy, should the opportunity arise. He seems to be considering the possibility of Sonic 4, provided the new adventure strikes him as exciting and fun.
Carrey, who essentially stepped out of his relaxed life to join Sonic 3, had some whimsical thoughts to share on the red carpet. Initially teasing that only a script “written in gold ink” would captivate him, he later humorously admitted his return was due to needs more earthly—”I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly,” he quipped with a grin.
During a chat with Japan’s Cinema Today on YouTube, Jim Carrey elaborated on this idea of future Sonic films. “I’m definitely open,” he expressed. “Usually, they come to me with an idea, and if my response is, ‘that sounds fun,’ then I’m in. I don’t feel tied down to anything unless it genuinely piques my interest.”
The love Carrey holds for the team behind the Sonic movies, and his affection for the fans, is quite evident. “I certainly love this crew, this gang that makes these movies, and I adore the fans. There’s such vibrant energy around this, with fantastic reactions and fan suggestions. It’s like we’re all crafting this film together,” he shared.
Adding to the amusement, the video captured a moment where Carrey demonstrated his knack for comedic timing, joking about his “power-rests between projects.” He even made a face that, while not quite reaching his legendary Grinch level, was pretty impressive, complete with a playful sound effect. On my facial expression scale, it’s easily an 8 out of 10.
And if nothing else, this gives you a light-hearted distraction from exploring certain sections of Carrey’s Wikipedia page—like those on his vaccine views from years back or his NFT endeavors.
On a different note regarding Sonic the Hedgehog 3, writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller recently shared musings about what other games they might be interested in adapting, an exciting prospect for fans of gaming and cinema alike.
