Valve has expanded its certified refurbished program by adding the Steam Deck OLED, offering gamers a chance to snag one at a considerable discount directly from Valve. These refurbished OLED models are now available at a 20% reduced price compared to their brand-new versions.
In this refurbished lineup, you’ll find the 1TB and 512GB Steam Deck OLED models. The 1TB version comes in at $519, while the 512GB model is priced at $439. To put that in perspective, if you were to buy the new 1TB model, it would set you back $649, and the new 512GB would cost $549. So, you’re saving a cool $120 and $110, respectively. Interestingly enough, you can grab the refurbished 1TB OLED for $30 less than a brand-new 512GB model.
The only new Steam Deck model that is cheaper than the refurbished OLED versions is the 256GB LCD, which is technically from the previous generation and is priced at $399. While Valve does sell certified refurbished versions of the LCD Steam Deck, including the 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB models, they are currently out of stock. Moreover, the new 512GB and 64GB LCD models are no longer available for purchase.
It’s worth noting that the OLED version of the Steam Deck is a significant step up from what the name alone suggests. Aside from switching from LCD to OLED, the display now features a 90Hz refresh rate on a 7.4-inch screen with HDR support. It also offers brightness of 400 nits, peaking at 1000 nits in HDR mode. Compared to the 7-inch LCD version that capped at 60Hz and lacked HDR support, this is quite the evolution.
There are changes under the hood as well. The battery has been upgraded from 40Whr to 50Whr, and Valve claims this can give you anywhere from 3 to 12 hours of gaming, depending on what you’re playing. In comparison, the LCD version promised 2 to 8 hours. The RAM in the OLED model has also seen an improvement from 5500MT/s LPDDR5 to a faster 6400 MT/s LPDDR5, and the AMD APU has been optimized from a 7nm to a 6nm process node.
These refurbished Steam Deck OLEDs are available only in select regions, which include Canada, the EU, the UK, and the US, and they come with a one-year warranty similar to that of new units. Depending on where you live, the warranty could be even longer.
