According to Amazon US, sales for Quest headsets during Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2024 didn’t match up to those in 2023. In 2023, around 170,000 Quest headsets sold within the 30-day period around these shopping events. A year later, sales dipped to roughly 146,000 units, indicating a 14% decrease. However, it’s essential to note that this data might not accurately reflect figures from other retailers.
It’s somewhat unexpected, especially since Meta rolled out the enhanced Quest 3S, slashed the price on the Quest 3, and even had the high-profile game “Batman: Arkham Shadow” ready for the shopping frenzy.
In contrast, during the holiday season of 2023, Meta was still offering the older Quest 2 model. That year, their Black Friday promotion featured the popular 128GB Quest 2 at a compelling $250, paired with a $50 gift card, effectively pricing the headset at $200.
That particular offer outperformed this year’s attempt, where Meta offered the 128GB Quest 3S model for $300 with a $75 gift card, making the net cost about $225. Despite the Quest 3S presenting significant value for the slightly higher price, purchasing decisions aren’t solely based on cost. Wider economic conditions, deals from competitors, and evolving interest in VR contribute heavily to sales outcomes.
Interestingly, when comparing the sales ratio between the Quest 3S and Quest 3 for this year’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday, they mirrored the past year’s sales pattern of Quest 2 versus Quest 3, with a ratio of roughly 3 to 1.
