If you’re still on the fence about Sony brewing up a new PlayStation handheld, the latest intel might just sway you. Coming from Digital Foundry, an unexpected source primarily known for its tech coverage rather than industry leaks, there’s now more buzz around this portable gaming device. Although they’ve mostly kept to their own lane, this time around they’ve joined the fray of credible reports confirming they’ve caught wind of Sony’s newest venture.
### PlayStation Handheld: Progressing Faster Than Anticipated
John Linneman of Digital Foundry shared that they caught wind of Sony’s handheld project several months ago. This insight gives them a leg up, having been briefed on Sony’s game plan well before Bloomberg’s recent revelations. Previously, this device’s existence was hinted at by reliable leaker Tom Henderson, with whispers dating as far back as February 2024.
Linneman mentioned that the handheld development appears to be advancing more swiftly than earlier leaks led us to believe. “We don’t typically leak information, but it’s been interesting to see this news making rounds, pretty much confirming what we already knew off the record,” Linneman noted on Reddit. He further speculated, “I think there’s some prototype stuff out there.”
While it’s impossible to say definitively if this will come to fruition, the prevailing thought is that handheld gaming will significantly shape the future of next-gen consoles.
