Dead by Daylight’s Fateful Journey Leads Two Tormented Souls into The Fog

Merciless As The Sea

Portia Maye, who would eventually become known as The Houndmaster, once led a seemingly ordinary life. Raised with her father’s love and an adventurous spirit, she spent much of her early years at sea. Her life took a tragic turn when the notorious pirate, Mad Molak, attacked her father’s ship, the Nightsdream, killing almost everyone on board.

Forced to live as a celestial navigator, Portia’s quest for vengeance led her to a path of darkness. She eventually found herself steering the doomed ship into the hazardous Dragon’s Tooth, drowning her captors. Incredibly, she survived the ordeal, and soon after found solace in the company of Snug, her faithful puppy.

Back then, Portia was the epitome of survival, emerging from the bloody massacre and enduring years stranded on Dragon’s Tooth. Her hatred for Molak fueled her bloodlust, intensifying each year. What she didn’t initially realize was that Dragon’s Tooth was a Bleed—a supernatural crossing point between Realms. Imagine it like a canvas where colors blur and merge as two dimensions collide.

“The most fascinating thing about entering a Bleed,” shares Lead Narrative Director Jessi Thind, "is that it either destroys you or drives you insane."

As madness gripped her, Portia mastered the art of violence. Ultimately, she became a Killer far more ruthless than Molak. By the time she exacted her vengeance, her fate in The Entity’s domain was already sealed.

In what remained of her humanity, she held onto Snug, her devoted companion and ally on her dark path. As The Houndmaster, Snug’s tracking and holding abilities are key to her power.

For The Black Talon

As a member of the Black Talon, a division within the sinister Black Vale, Taurie Cain spent her life uncovering The Entity’s mysteries. Her parents, driven by research, stumbled into a Bleed, guiding Taurie into an unforeseen tragedy—she followed to save them.

After that, Taurie dedicated herself to the Black Talon, quickly climbing the ranks. While fellow survivors Haddie Kaur and Elodie Rakoto have faced Black Vale’s acolytes, Taurie embraced the darkness, viewing The Entity as a means to transcend humanity.

“Taurie’s actions are rooted in her belief in humanity’s betterment,” explains Thind. “But as she rose, she found herself in deeper shadow, facing a moment where she had to make a hard choice.”

Her path led to a critical juncture: she was tasked to sacrifice a man named Jordan Rois—Haddie Kaur’s stepbrother and an adversary of the Talon. Yet, she hesitated at the final moment, marking a pivotal choice just as she entered The Fog.

In The Fog, Taurie realized her devotion was part of a continuum of pain. Despite the realizations that might break others, Taurie held firm, believing her true destiny remained undefined.

“Her commitment to the Vale may actually help in The Fog, as she believes it’s all intentional,” Thind continues. “Taurie is intent on continuing until The Entity recognizes her as one of its own—a Killer.”

This begs the question: why did The Entity choose Taurie as a Survivor instead of a Killer?

“The Entity feeds on emotions,” says Thind. “Perhaps there is a gain for The Entity in having someone filled with dichotomy—to have tension, bewilderment, and distrust among Survivors.”

Despite the inevitable conflicts, Taurie remains resolute. Her abilities are crafted for quick detachment from allies, pulling the Killer’s attention, and turning her suffering to her advantage.

It’s intriguing that both Portia and Taurie experienced Bleeds, yet Taurie remains largely intact. Perhaps, under other circumstances, they might have exchanged roles in The Entity’s Realm. However, once a destiny is entwined with The Fog, it’s irrevocable.
