If you have kids or you’re just a huge fan of Pixar, and you’re eagerly awaiting Inside Out 2, there’s some exciting news coming your way. Dream Productions is gearing up to expand its universe this December, and based on the full trailer, it looks like we’re in for something a little different.
This new series is set to premiere on Disney Plus on December 11. It’s been in the pipeline for quite some time. After Inside Out 2 smashed records by raking in nearly $1.7 billion globally and claiming the title of the highest-grossing animated film ever, Disney and Pixar decided to shake things up. They’ve replaced the initial Win or Lose series, now planned for release early next year, with this four-episode narrative, strategically placed between the two Inside Out films.
Here’s a snippet straight from Disney and Pixar:
Set in the gap between Inside Out and Inside Out 2, Pixar Animation Studios presents Dream Productions, a fresh series about the magic inside Riley’s brain where dreams come to life—every night, consistently and efficiently. As Riley matures, and her memories demand deeper processing, Joy and the Core Emotions dispatch them to Dream Productions. Renowned director Paula Persimmon (voiced by Paula Pell) faces her own set of challenges: crafting the next big dream alongside Xeni (voiced by Richard Ayoade), a smug daydream director eager to make his mark in the nightly arena.

As you’d expect, the animation quality is top-notch. Pixar’s move to Disney’s streaming platform hasn’t compromised the studio’s well-known visual polish. This series is a concise four-part miniseries, running about 82 minutes in total, instead of a lengthy TV season. However, it’s worth noting that Win or Lose is expected to be a longer, more ambitious undertaking for Pixar.
Dream Productions aims to delve deeper into the ‘movie studio’ concept first introduced in the 2015 original. The series is the brainchild of Mike Jones, who co-wrote Soul and Luca, two standout Pixar films from recent years that had unconventional releases due to the pandemic. With Star Wars: Skeleton Crew also dropping in early December, families with Disney Plus subscriptions are in for a delightful array of fresh, quality content to enjoy together during the holiday season.
