Wow, gamers, get ready for some exciting news! Nintendo just dropped some major announcements about what’s coming next after the Switch.
In a recent Corporate Management Policy briefing, following the company’s Q2 results for the 2024-25 fiscal year, Nintendo revealed that the upcoming console, which will succeed the Switch, will fully support existing Switch software. Plus, your Nintendo Switch Online subscription will carry over seamlessly.
Furukawa, from Nintendo, shared, “At today’s Corporate Management Policy Briefing, we confirmed that you’ll be able to play Nintendo Switch software on its successor. Nintendo Switch Online will also continue to be available on this new system. More details about this upcoming console, especially regarding its compatibility with Switch, will be shared later.”
There’s still a bit of mystery, though. We’re yet to find out if this means only digital backwards compatibility, or if the new console will be able to play physical Switch games too, much like how the 3DS could run DS cartridges. Stay tuned for more updates on this front!
