Attention, Splitgate enthusiasts! The chance you’ve been waiting for is nearly here—the much-anticipated sequel to this viral sensation is now open for playtest sign-ups.
Every so often, a shooter comes out of nowhere and captivates the gaming community. In 2021, Splitgate did exactly that with its ongoing beta, although it had been quietly gaining traction during its early access phase over the preceding years. The game saw its full release the following year, and that’s when developer 1047 Games revealed a major update: they would halt feature development on this Halo-meets-Portal title. Why? To focus on its sequel, which they’re crafting using Unreal Engine 5!
Officially unveiled earlier this year, the sequel has a tentative release window set for 2025. And now, straight from the game’s official Twitter feed, you can hop in line for a chance to participate in the upcoming playtest.
In an exciting tweet, the developers invited fans to “Suit up and get ready for more Splitgate 2!” They teased, “The team’s been cooking up something explosive, and we’re excited to get your feedback.” Signing up is straightforward: simply fill out a Google form that asks a few questions—like your experience with the first game, recent shooters in your library, and your gaming platform of choice.
Do keep in mind, though, the form requests your Steam and Discord usernames. This is likely because the playtest will be conducted there, so if you prefer to keep those details under wraps, you might have to pass on this opportunity.
Just last month, Connor from our team had the opportunity to chat with 1047 Games’ CEO. They discussed how the studio keeps Splitgate innovative and what they’ve learned from classics like Halo Reach. It’s a fascinating read if you’re curious about their approach!
Whether you’re an old pro or new to the Splitgate universe, the upcoming playtest promises to offer a fresh and exciting experience. So, why not dive in and see what twists and surprises the sequel has in store?
