After making waves with Iron Meat’s debut in September, Retroware is already rolling up their sleeves to plot out some exciting updates for their retro-inspired creation!
The buzz is building as the first major update hits Xbox, bringing with it a slew of fresh content ready for you to dive into.
Mirror, Mirror
Among the top features players were clamoring for is Mirror Mode. It flips each level, letting you navigate everything from the enemies to the bosses in a mirrored world. This might sound like a simple switch of direction, but trust me, it creates a completely different gaming experience. You can unlock this mode once you’ve completed the game on any difficulty.
Red Rapid Fire
Another exciting addition is the automatic Supercharge upgrade, which serves as the third upgrade level for weapons. When you activate this, your projectiles transform into a striking red hue—a step away from the usual blue or green hues of lower-tier weaponry. With a full arsenal firing these crimson shots, players who collect a third upgrade of their weapons are in for a treat with this Rapid Fire feature.
My 1UPs, Thank You
Get ready to rejoice, because now any extra lives you collect while playing a level stay with you as you move on to the next. This means if you wrap up a level with extra lives, you won’t lose them when you jump to the following stage.
Visual Enhancements to Level Backgrounds
But wait, there’s more! We’ve taken a closer look at the backgrounds of some levels and added details that enrich Iron Meat’s narrative. You’ll notice helicopters swooping down to attack Meat monsters in the Forest, new visual elements like spikes with the Base midboss, surviving pilots fleshing out the ending credits, and dramatic Meat meteor impacts on the Train.
Other Updates
Besides squashing bugs, we’ve also:
- Boosted the damage for the “E”, “U”, and “M” guns.
- Increased the Meat count on the Moon Base.
- Adjusted patterns in the MI-24 helicopter boss fight for clarity.
- Made small tweaks in every level for fairer gameplay, such as permitting destruction of Meat worms on their Base appearance and enabling critters to smash through Meat Mouth Doors on Train.
This update is just a teaser of what’s to come, and there’s even more on the horizon for Iron Meat. The game is out now—grab your controller, dive into the chaos, and stay tuned for future updates!
