According to the well-informed insider Ghost of Hope, Sledgehammer Games is reportedly taking the helm for the Call of Duty installment slated for 2027. This news comes as the gaming community buzzes with speculation and anticipation.
In a recent update shared on X, Ghost of Hope mentioned that next year’s hotly anticipated entry in the franchise is being developed by Infinity Ward, which many believe will be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. As for the 2027 project, while it won’t be a continuation like Year 2 Modern Warfare games such as Modern Warfare 3, there’s some speculation it might just be Advanced Warfare 2.

In a shared post, Ghost of Hope stated, “What I am hearing about Sledgehammer Games and their future with Call of Duty: Sledgehammer Games are currently set to lead their own Call of Duty in 2027. This follow-up comes after Infinity Ward’s 2026 game, which is likely MW4. The game in 2027 isn’t another Year 2 Modern Warfare piece like MWIII. It’s still unclear if it’ll be Advanced Warfare 2 or a fresh concept. I’ll keep you posted as soon as there’s more clarity.”
Going back to May, a couple of dataminers dropped some intriguing hints about Call of Duty 2026 and Call of Duty 2027. They suggested that 2027’s game, reportedly called Project Devilwood, will occur in the same timeline as Call of Duty Ghosts. They also echoed Ghost of Hope’s claim that Sledgehammer Games is developing the sequel, which appears to be following up on Advanced Warfare’s storyline.
Meanwhile, this year’s addition to the series, Call of Duty Black Ops 6, hit the shelves at the end of October, and according to Activision, it has quickly become the “biggest Call of Duty ever.” There’s no denying the perennial excitement surrounding each release.
